Appliance Repair Oakville | Replacing the Water Inlet Valve
If you want to repair your dishwasher yourself and believe that the problem is the water inlet valve, here is what you will need to do.
First, the tools that you will need is a pair of needle nose pliers, a 1/4 inch nut driver an adjustable wrench and some Teflon tape.
To replace the water inlet valve there are a couple of things that you have to do first. For safety reasons, you must shut off the electricity to the dishwasher (either unplug the dishwasher or shut off the electricity via the circuit panel). You will also need to shut off the water flow to the dishwasher. You will not need to pull the dishwasher out from the cupboard, but you will need to remove the plate at the bottom in order to access to the valve.
Remove the two screws at the bottom of the panel and two just below the door so that you have access to under the dishwasher. In looking at the four screws that you just took out, if two of them are longer than the other two, you must remember to put the longer ones at THE BOTTOM when you put the front panel back on. If you put them at the top you can screw in too far, damage the dishwasher and your dishwasher may leak.
The water valve is located on the left hand side.
First you willl need to remove the water tube to the valve and then take off the fitting. Save the fitting. Remove the screws that hold the valve bracket to the dishwasher. With the valve tilted down, you can remove the electrical harness. With your pliers, clamp the hose and wiggle it off of the valve. You may get a bit of water leakage, but nothing substantial.
Remove the plumbers tape and retape it.
Put in the new fitting, install the valve. Put the hose back on and make sure that it is firmly on the valve. Place the bracket back on with the screws you had taken off earlier then reconnect the water supply.
Tighten up the fitting on the valve to make sure it is secure.
Put the power back on and the water back on and test your dishwasher to make sure that there aren’t any leaks. Once you have confirmed that all is well, you can put the front panel back on.
